Saint Therese de Lisieux Catholic Church was founded on July 1, 2000 with Rev. Louis Guerin as the founding pastor.
St. Therese (birth name Therese Marie Martin) was born to Louis Martin and his wife Zelie Guerin in Alcenon, France (where Fr. Guerin's family lived before moving to Belgium in 1554.) She was one of five girls to enter the Carmelite convent in Lisieux after her mother died.
Pope John Paul II called her one of the greatest saints in modern times when he declared her a Doctor of the Church in 1997. Her youthful spirit permeates the Church today. She died at the age of 24 years of tuberculosis and promised before she died to "spend eternity in heaven showering us with roses from heaven".
St. Therese de Lisieux parish serves the western Lake Worth and Wellington communities. Its future building site is located on 42 acres situated on the southeast corner of Lake Worth Road and 120th Avenue in Wellington.
Mass was first celebrated in the Wellington Boys & Girls Club; then in the cafeteria of Polo Park Middle School, and is currently being celebrated in a modular building located on the site of the future campus. The future Catholic Campus will include a Church, Elementary School, Parish Center, and Rectory. As of March 2005, we have over 1,000 registered families.
In September 2003, we moved into our new modular building and in January 2004 we began the "Share the Vision-Meet the Challenge" Campaign.
On July 1, 2006 Fr. Brian Lehnert was assigned as the 2nd Pastor of St. Therese of Lisieux. He was ordained April 29th, 2000. He looks forward to continuing to do great work buliding the "Kingdom of God," through the intersession of St. Therese of Lisieux.
